Children’s Expert Advisory Group (CEAG) Meeting – Key Highlights and Future Focus

On 1 October 2024, the Children’s Expert Advisory Group (CEAG) held its third meeting, chaired by Ms. Samantha Taylor, General Manager of the Children Taskforce at the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). This online meeting brought together experts to discuss the key priorities for the CEAG’s workplan and how best to support children and young people involved in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The meeting focused on developing the CEAG’s workplan and the NDIA’s co-design approach for engaging with children, young people, and caregivers.

CEAG’s Priorities and Work Plan

The group discussed the Draft Work Plan, identifying key topics and the timeline for addressing these issues. Among the main priorities were:

  • Establishing a clear workplan that aligns with the needs of children and young people within the NDIS.
  • Engaging with other experts and representative groups to ensure a well-rounded approach.
  • Prioritizing topics such as developmental delay and ensuring that children’s unique needs are met through tailored NDIS services.

The group also explored the best methods to engage children and young people in the design and review of services, ensuring that diverse perspectives are represented.

NDIA Co-Design Approach and Next Steps

The NDIA’s Co-Design Approach was another critical element of the meeting. The agency emphasized capturing the voices of children and young people throughout their NDIS journey. Members discussed how best to include diverse cohorts in the co-design process.

Targeted discussions on developmental delay will take place, with a sub-group of CEAG members focusing on this issue. The CEAG will also work on finalizing its workplan, with plans to continue co-design efforts and explore the creation of a subgroup focused on young people’s issues.
